
In each of our shows we have a selection of classes for those under the age of 16, which include flowers, vegetables, cookery, art work, crafting, model-making and photography. Topics for the classes can be found in the Society's Schedule booklet and in the boxes to the left.
Entries should be made by telephone to the Junior Section Secretary by 9:pm on the Thursday prior to the show.
A trophy is awarded at each show for the highest number of points scored by a Junior Member.
Summer Show
- A collage made of leaves, any subject.
- A model garden made of Lego, maximum size 30cm2.
- 3 American Muffins.
Autumn Show
- A flower in a pot, grown by you.*
- A drawing or painting of a book title, any medium.
- 3 fruit kebabs.
* seed supplied from our stall at the Hayes Fair on the 7th June.
Winter Show
- An arrangement of flowers, berries and/or foliage in a Society vase.
- A finger puppet of a pantomime character.
- 3 mince pies, with pastry made by you.



American Muffin Recipe
Here is a recipe you could use for the Summer Show, there are other recipes in books and online.
Ingredients:
- 300g Self-raising flour
- 150g Caster sugar
- 2tsp Baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 125ml vegetable oil
- 175 - 250ml Milk (depending on desired thickness)
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 200g Add ins ( Blueberries, chocolate chips etc)
Instructions:
- Preheat and Prep: Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees/Gas Mark 6. Line muffin tin with paper cases.
- Mix Dry: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt
- Mix Wet: In a jug, whisk together the oil, milk, eggs and vanilla
- Combine: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon just until combined - do not overmix, the batter should be slightly lumpy
- Add-ins: Gently fold in your chosen add in.
- Bake: Divide the batter into the cases, filling them right to the top for 'bakery style' tops. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and risen.
