Welcome to
Hayes Horticultural Society

Celebrating gardening and community spirit in Hayes for 134 years.

About the Society

The Hayes Horticultural Society officially dates to 1892, but there are records of a group dating back to 1804 exhibiting at that years' Hayes Fair.

The original objectives of the Society:

"To encourage the cultivation of flowers, fruit and vegetables"

are still at the heart of what we do. In these changing times the Society also hopes to raise awareness of how we can enrich lives and  wellbeing through plants and gardens, share our knowledge and support the local community, We run Shows through the year, hold plant sales and have an Allotment, at which members can apply to rent a plot.

Together, we hope to continue the gardening traditions we have now and cultivate a greener future for everyone, inspiring a lifelong appreciation for plants and nature.

Shows

The Society runs four shows each year, in March, June, September and November at Hayes Village Hall.

Classes are open for flowers, fruit, vegetables, cookery, art and photography. There are also classes especially for young people under 16.
Entries from members are encouraged but you do not have to be a member to take part.

A Schedule is published each year and is delivered to current members, which contains the list of classes in each show together with the rules and regulations, entry fees and prizes.

The classes are assessed by independent RHS recognised judges who award places and certificates.

Further details are available here

 Allotments

The Society has an Allotment, behind the houses in Constance Crescent, in which members may be able to rent a plot on a yearly basis. The plots come in different sizes and the fee for each one reflects this. The fee also covers a contribution to water use, insurance, membership of the Hayes Horticultural Society and The National Allotment Society.

Please be aware that there is usually a waiting list for plots.

Plant Sales

The Society aims to run seasonal plant sales, when possible, which are very popular with local gardeners with plants selling quickly. These sales are held either outside Hayes Village Hall or at the Allotments in Constance Crescent.

We also run a plant stall at the Hayes Fair each summer.

Plants for sale are mostly grown by members and the funds raised go towards support the Society and its work in the community.
